Condition Monitoring Report
Station Number: CO-LR-1272
Station Name: Estes Park 1.7 SW
Report Date: 5/19/2025
Submitted: 5/19/2025 6:55 AM
Scale Bar: Mildly Dry
Description:
Staying at Mildly Dry, though conditions are improving with the recent rain/wintry-mix this past week. There is decent soil moisture from a gardening perspective. Trees, shrubs, grasses, and forbs are greening up nicely. I had a large herd of mostly cow elk come through twice in the last week and they are looking healthy other than looking a bit mangy as they shed their winter coats. Likewise with deer. My location compared to PRISM normals is 137% MTD, 81% YTD, and 80% WYTD. A wet May will help with the short term outlook but there is still the concerning lack of snowpack, though we are faring much better in the northern part of the state and elsewhere in the state. The snowpack in the high country is still low: 6-digit HUC South Platte River is 77% of normal SWE, 8-digit HUC Big Thompson River is 88%. Rivers have been rising a little every day but major stream runoff has not yet started so the fishing is accessible. There are no fire restrictions beyond the permanent ones in the park, and in Larimer county.
