We went from near normal (briefly) at the end of last week, to severely wet in just seven days. We are not even close to draining off. Everything around is saturated, and the lawns/fields with their thick root mass are acting like gigantic sponges, slowing drain off. You can't walk on lawns or work most farm fields. We have been mildly wet here for most of the season so far, with only a few days in normal.
Total rainfall so far this month at this location is 8.95". Yesterday dumped over 3", which is why we are severe.
We have not had many 'drying days', days with sun and wind. If you look at the cocorahs rainfall map for 6/28 you will see a red streak right from Brookings to this site. I think this is some sort of 'corridor'. I've noticed both wet and dry trends exactly along this line. Go 50 miles north or south of that line - different. I've been noticing this trend for over 4 years now.
Mosquitoes are also extremely bad, like old school bad. Haven't seen a year like this in ages. Flies, tics and gnats are light, or absent.
Winds have been low, weather cool and cloudy/rainy. Morning dews moderate to light, wild fire smoke absent. Very light hail once, perhaps only graupel (a few seconds worth).
