Lack of any significant rain the past week has exacerbated the drought-like conditions. The lawn, where it gets sunlight, has gone into dormancy and is brown and crunchy to walk on. The trees are showing some signs of the drought, water loving trees like my birch actually have some leaves turning brown and falling. I refill bird baths 2-3 times a day-it's heartbreaking to see the poor birds outside panting, but they really appreciate the cool water and taking baths when it is this hot. The corn loves this weather, but tasseling has begun, so the corn will need rain. The beans aren't doing as well and are showing stress.
